GRAN FUZZ / PROTOTYPE NO.5
Olaf “Olly” Smit is a Dutch guitarist. His musical path runs like a thread through the underground rock world, where he is known as a gearhead with a penchant for tube amplifiers, pedals, and carefully crafted sounds. His favorite color is blue so you do the math.
He first started out in the band Bluuurgh. He further built his reputation with Celestial Season, the Dutch rock and metal band that achieved international fame with their blend of doom and stoner rock. His contributions to live performances and studio work made him a recognizable part of the band.
A key chapter in his career was his role as guest guitarist with Hermano during their European tours, where he was embraced by the band as a full-fledged touring member. He also worked on projects such as The Fuel and Meyer Bliss.
Olly finally became involved with Troy Torino, a stoner/rock project that brought together various musicians from the Dutch scene. A collaboration with musicians from bands like Spoiler, 7Zuma7, and Orphanage.
Olly wrote about the Gran Fuzz: "God's awesome sound! I'd buy shares in King Sonic Audio."

The Gran Fuzz is a hand-built analog fuzz pedal based on a 1,5V 1960s circuit, modified for use with modern 9V power supplies. It produces a thick, mid-focused fuzz tone that reacts strongly to playing dynamics and volume changes on your instrument. The Gran Fuzz features a modified filter and an added gain stage. This gives it enormous headroom and allows it to also be used as a booster. The pedal works well with both guitar and bass.
Controls are simple and effective:
-
Fuzz adjusts the amount of gain and saturation.
-
Tone shapes the brightness and bite of the fuzz.
-
Volume controls the overall output level.
Each pedal is built in a custom metal enclosure, manually assembled, and fitted with selected components. Because every build is done by hand, no two units look or sound exactly the same.
Power: 9V-12 DC, center negative
Bypass: True bypass switching
Input/output: Standard ¼" mono jacks
